I am a highly qualified teacher with 40+ years’ experience.
During my career I have held various middle and senior management posts within Primary , Secondary and Post 16 sectors Schools. I have been a SENCO at KS1-4 as well as a Senior Advisory Teacher, co-ordinating courses for Dyslexia , SLDs and ASDs and delivered training within schools, colleges and Universities.
I was invited to teach at Dyslexia Institute from 1987-1991 and completed a Degree in Cognitive Psychology in 1992 to further my knowledge of Dyslexia and Sp LDs. I have been in a successful Private Practice as a Dyslexia /SpLD therapist since 1992 in UK and Australia.
As a result, my teaching style is engaging, stretching and fun with lots of practical solutions for students of all ages and abilities who are struggling readers and writers , to use at school and home.
I have seen many approaches used in schools, over the years, to teach reading but my wealth of experience sees me firmly advocating systematic ,synthetic phonics as the best and most successful approach in decoding print . Children and students actually want to enjoy the process of learning to read and Syn. Phonics is the most effective tool to develop independence
My aim is to help your child achieve her or his potential with personalized learning and techniques to motivate those who are “switched off ” and finding learning hard and , in doing so, build self-confidence and inspire them on their learning journey.
I remain connected with learning through my roles as a Governor in a LA Chertsey School and as a Family Learning Tutor for Surrey CC in various Sure Start Centres.
